This level of programmes provide information and values based education on human sexuality appropriate for the age group of years 9 to 11.

Choosing to Love (A)

For years 9 to 10

’Choosing to Love (A)’ is designed to facilitate the formation of healthy sexuality in young people, building on the ‘Toward Loving (B)’ module to expand students’ knowledge and understanding of human sexuality as appropriate for this age group.

The format of this module is a full day, in-school seminar where students engage with the subject matter in small groups, guided by a trained facilitator.

 

OBJECTIVES

  • To encourage the choice of a lifestyle that integrates all aspects of Hauora (Emotional, Spiritual, Intellectual, Social and Physical).
  • To communicate the Christian understanding of human sexuality and relationships.
  • To encourage behaviour that is respectful of self and others.
  • To challenge students to make choices that will enhance their happiness, health and well being.

    The importance of family.
  • Session 4: My Fertility
    Valuing and understanding fertility.

    (Girls) When Life is not planned: Challenges and outcomes of an unplanned pregnancy.
    (Boys) What do you see?: Effects of Pornography on behaviour and relationships.
  • Session 6: My Hauora
    Choices that can affect my health and wellbeing (STIs).
  • Session 7: Media/ Technology
    The influence of media and technology on behaviour, self image and relationships.
  • Session 8: Whānaungatanga
    Qualities required for healthy friendships and dating.
  • Session 9: Dating
    The purpose of dating and respectful dating behaviours.
  • Session 10: Choosing to Love
    Healthy lifestyle choices.
